Turbidity Tube

This turbidity tube is a simple tool to measure the clarity   of water in streams, rivers, and lakes when traditional Secchi disk measurements are not practical. It is ideal for shallow, fast-moving, or highly turbid water where boat-based readings are difficult or impossible.
The tube is made from clear acrylic and features a small Secchi disk at the bottom with a metric scale printed along the side for easy readings. To determine turbidity, fill the tube to the top, then slowly release water using the drainage hose until the Secchi disk just becomes visible when viewed from above through the full column of water. Clamp the hose, hold the tube level, and record the water level at the scale, then repeat for additional water samples, working efficiently so suspended particles do not have time to settle. Higher water levels indicate clearer water (lower turbidity), while lower water levels indicate more suspended particles (higher turbidity). Includes activity guide.

  • Clear acrylic tube with integral Secchi disk and metric scale for direct turbidity readings
  • Easy-to-read graduations for quick, repeatable measurements in the field or lab
  • One-hand operable hose clamp for precise control of water level during testing
  • Length optimized for accurate measurement while remaining compact for field portability
  • Includes activity guide
