Lenz's Law Apparatus

Demonstrate the principles of magnetic induction with the Lenz’s Law Apparatus. The central pointed support balances an aluminum arm that has two aluminum loops on the ends. One loop is solid while the other has a slit. When a magnet is brought near a metal loop it induces an opposing magnetic field.

When the loop is incomplete, an induced current cannot be created. This causes the complete loop to experience motion, while the incomplete loop does not move. The device is sensitive enough to work with a variety of magnets (not included), but neodymium magnets yield the best results. Includes activity guide.

Apparatus measures 3” x 8” x 6” (7.6 cm x 20 cm x 15.2 cm).

  • Pointed support evenly balances the arm
  • Aluminum design is ferromagnetic but can have an induced magnetic field
  • Sensitive enough to work with a variety of magnets
  • Includes activity guide
