Rubber Magdeburg Hemispheres
Rubber Magdeburg Hemispheres include two built-in sturdy handles that allow users to firmly grasp both sides. When the two 8.5 cm diameter suction cups are pressed together, air is evacuated from between them, creating a partial vacuum so the outside air pressure becomes much greater than the pressure between the cups. This pressure difference is easy to feel when attempting to pull the hemispheres apart.
The two halves separate easily when the built-in release knob is pulled, lifting the edge of a suction cup to equalize the air pressure so the hemispheres come apart with minimal effort.
Situational awareness of surrounding objects or individuals
is required when pulling the hemispheres apart, as sliding the halves parallel to one another instead of pulling them directly apart may cause them to come loose too quickly.
